The Federation of Associations of Small Industries of India - Southern Region(FASII-SR) is a consequence of the visit of the Ford Foundation Team to India in 1953 which emphasised the need for a national apex body for micro, small, village, cottage and rural Enterprises.
FASII-SR was ushered into existence in the year 1959 under the sponsorship of the Government of India and at the instance of Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru and Shri Manubai Shah, Former Union Industries Minister. Padamshree Late A.R. Bhat, a Gandhian, was instrumental in the very edifice of FASII-SR. FASII-SR’s Building was inaugurated by the then President of India Late Dr. S. Radhakrishnan in the year 1963.
Objective of FASII-SR is to promote and protect the Small Industries. To take all steps to protect and promote the general interests of the persons engaged in Small Industries.
Further objectives are as follows -:
• To create and encourage a fellow feeling and co-operation among the manufacturers and consumers in Small Industries and to evolve a common policy on all subjects involving their common interest.
• To consider and formulate opinions upon all matters connected with the Small Industries To collect, classify and circulate statistics and other information relating to commercial interests in general and Small Industries in particular. To promote beneficial and other measures relating to the Small Industries and thus obtain by all acknowledged means the readdress as far as possible of grievances of the Industrialists in Small Industries.
• To promote, encourage, safeguard, advance and protect the interest of Small Scale Industries in India.
• To encourage, aid, stimulate and promote the development of Small Scale Industries in India.
• To promote, develop, encourage, support, maintain and increase the exports of the production of Small Industries in India.
• To conduct Seminars / Workshops / Awareness Programs for the benefit of small-scale industries on various subjects.
• To assist the Small Scale Industries in India, in the matter of Industrial Development, finance, import, export, policy, shipping, transport, clearing and forwarding, banking communications and labor-management relations.
• To organize Industrial & Marketing Management & Industrial Management program
• To co-operate with industrial, business, educational and research institutions and other organizations in connection and exchange of information pertaining to small-scale industries.
• To co-operate with other national bodies for small scale industries in India, with intention of furthering the objectives of the Company and with this in view to affiliate groups and bodies also by getting itself affiliated to any other national bodies if necessary.
• To organize and participate in exhibitions, trade fairs, promote marketing groups and to undertake mass communication and such other activities to promote marketing of small-scale industries’ products.
FASII-SR is involved in a lot of activities, events and exhibitions. They do membership programs having different member categories such as Associate Member, Industrial Member, Patron Member, Life Member, Institutional Member. Activities which are being involved are Guidance Cell, Member Benefits, Membership in Govt. Committees
Services involved are Entrepreneurial Development, Assisting for Self Employment opportunity, Promotion of Labour-intensive industries, Ancillary Development, Help to solve individual and collective problems and preparation of project reports.
Exhibitions involved are INTEC, AGRIINTEX, BUILDINTEC, ELEKTROTEC, CBF, CSF, SUBCON, FABINTEC, EDU INTEC, WATERINTEC and NSTF
Guidance Cell offers free guidance & advice to the budding entrepreneurs and unemployed youths in identification and selection of Products, preparation of project report, purchase of machinery & equipment, raw materials, Bank finance, marketing of end products etc. It also appraises them about the procedures to be followed regarding incentives, subsidies from Government Departments, licensing procedures etc. Project profiles in various sectors are made available to the visiting entrepreneurs for study. On invitation from various technical institutions and organizations, the office bearers attended the meetings concerning entrepreneurship development and addressed the audience on entrepreneurship.
